Couple photo ideas you can shoot with just your iPhones

Last updated:

The structural problem with couple photos: someone has to take them. Which is why most couples' camera rolls are two separate collections of solo photos taken by the other person. Every idea below needs nothing but the phones you have.

The dual-camera set (the fix for the actual problem)

Shot with Selfie — front and back cameras in the same instant:

  1. The view + us. One of you frames the scenery on the back camera; both of you squeeze into the front window. The travel shot that normally requires a stranger. (Full travel setup.)
  2. The date documentation. The plates on the back camera, the two of you on the front — the restaurant shot without waving a waiter over.
  3. Watching them, watching you. Point the back camera at your partner doing something they love; the front catches you watching. Quietly the most romantic photo in the set.
  4. The reunion video. Airport arrivals, dual video: the walk toward each other on one camera, your face on the other, with sound. (Couples setups.)

The classic set, upgraded

  1. The mirror shot — through a film preset, so it reads vintage rather than gym.
  2. The shadow photo. Two shadows, golden hour, holding hands — zero faces, all mood, Noir preset. (Mono guide.)
  3. The timer-on-a-ledge wide shot — the one case where the ledge beats the hand.
  4. Hands only: rings, coffee cups, the dog's leash. Fragment shots carry dumps. (Dump grammar.)

Make the set match

Pick one look for the day — 35mm for golden hour, instant for indoor coziness, disposable for nights out — and shoot everything through it. A matched set reads like a story; mixed filters read like a camera roll. (Which look does what.)

Common questions

Both cameras at once — is that really one photo? In Selfie, yes: both are exposed simultaneously via Apple's multi-cam engine and saved as one composed image. (How that works.)

What about anniversary/proposal-grade photos? Hire the photographer for the milestone. The dual set is for the other 360 days — the ones that never justify a shoot and end up being the ones you miss.
