The photo dump, done well: a field guide
The photo dump — ten loosely related shots posted as one carousel — replaced the single perfect photo because it performs not performing. A good dump looks tossed together. It never is.
The three rules of a dump that works
- One texture. Ten photos in ten filters read as indecision; ten photos through one camera look — film, digicam, disposable — read as a roll. Shoot the day through one preset instead of unifying it in edits afterwards; capture-time texture survives compression and never mismatches. (Why capture beats editing.)
- One anchor, mostly fragments. The dump grammar: a couple of "real" photos carried by fragments — the receipt, the shoes, the half-eaten plate, the blurry laugh. Fragments are what make it feel found rather than staged.
- You appear once or twice, candidly. All-selfie dumps are a profile; no-you dumps are a catalog. The dual photo solves the ratio perfectly — you're in the scene shot, small, unposed, in the corner window.
A shot list that always works
Through one preset in Selfie — 35mm for trips, digicam for city days, disposable for nights out:
- The place, wide (dual: you in the corner) — the anchor
- The food or drink, close
- A texture: pavement, menu, ticket stub
- The people, mid-laugh, not posing
- Something broken or funny — the honesty beat
- The way home: window, night street, tired face (dual again)
Six to eight beats a story. Ten is the ceiling before it becomes an archive.

Should the first slide be the best photo? The first slide decides the open; the last slide decides the feeling. Anchor first, honesty beat last is the classic arrangement.
How do dual photos fit a dump? They're the highest-value slides — scene plus you in one frame, no separate selfie slide needed. One at the anchor, one at the end. (Ideas worth taking.)
Same-day post or archive? Dumps age well — the "last weekend" dump with a settled selection beats the same-night rush. The exception is concerts and parties, where the morning-after post rides the shared memory. (Filming the night itself.)
